In this exercise, you will use transect surveys and environmental data to create climate envelope models for a group of species of your choosing (it could be gastropods, barnacles, algae, anemones...). Over what range of temperatures is each species found? How does this distribution relate to any published data (if available) on the thermal tolerances of each species? How would you expect available habitat for each species to change if the intertidal zone of San Juan Island experienced a uniform 3˚C increase in temperature? Finally, what important details might a climate envelope model based solely on temperature be leaving out for your species?
